Property Controller / Head of Property Accounting

Charlotte, NC (Hybrid)

A growing affordable housing owner, developer, and property management organization is seeking a Property Controller / Head of Property Accounting to lead accounting and reporting for a large multifamily real estate portfolio. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will play a key role in driving financial performance, strengthening controls, improving processes, and supporting continued growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting and financial reporting across acquisitions, development projects, stabilized operations, and dispositions.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
• Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP compliance while partnering with external auditors.
• Drive automation, process improvement, and systems enhancements across Yardi and other financial platforms.
• Partner with property management, asset management, and executive leadership to support strategic decision-making.
• Lead, develop, and mentor a growing accounting team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA required.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
• Strong property accounting or real estate accounting experience.
• Deep knowledge of GAAP and experience with Yardi, MRI, or similar real estate accounting software.
• Track record of leading teams, improving processes, and supporting growth within a complex real estate environment.
• Affordable housing experience preferred.
