Title: Property Inspector (Facilities Management)

This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the Chicago Park District and SEIU Local 73. This position is open to current Chicago Park District employees and external applicants. The District may assemble a pool of qualified external candidates concurrently with this posting. Internal bargaining unit applicants will be given priority consideration in accordance with the Local 73 collective bargaining agreement.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under immediate supervision, inspects materials and movable usable property; conducts an inventory on all movable usable property and assists in establishing and enforcing established procedures for the control of such property; performs other related duties as required or assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Checks property received to determine conformity with purchase orders; takes samples of materials and supplies for testing purposes; counts, takes measurements, and determines quantities of materials and supplies delivered.
  • Takes periodic inventories of all movable usable property and assists in establishing procedures for keeping a perpetual inventory.
  • Checks records against property to determine the accuracy of the records.
  • Keeps field forces and supervisors apprised of the amount and location of movable usable property not kept in storehouses.
  • Assists in establishing procedures for requisitioning materials and supplies from storehouses.
  • Instructs operating units in property procedures to be followed and keeps records of property transferred from one operating unit to another.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

Training and Experience: High School graduation or equivalent GED plus three years of experience in warehouse or storeroom work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of warehouse or storeroom procedures. Knowledge of building and trades materials, tools and supplies. Knowledge of purchasing and inventory procedures. Skilled in maintaining accurate records and inventory.

BENEFITS: As a Chicago Park District employee in a position covered by the District's Agreement with SEIU Local 73, eligible employees receive a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • +$1.00/hour increase on 1/1/2026.
  • +$1.00/hour increase on 1/1/2027.
  • 1 day of personal leave at the commencement of each quarter, accrued on a pro rata basis.
  • 2 days of sick leave at the commencement of each quarter, accrued on a pro rata basis.
  • After one year of employment, employees who work 1,040 hours or more in the previous year are typically eligible for between 7-10 workdays of paid vacation time annually, and additional time after first 5 years of employment.
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave (upon meeting FMLA eligibility requirements).
  • Pension plan through the Park Employees'' and Retirement Board Employees'' Annuity and Benefit Fund, a system covered by the State of Illinois'' Reciprocal Act.

Rate of Pay: $72,626.39/annually
