Summary:

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver complex protection solutions for generation, transmission, and distribution systems for electrical utilities and industrial clients.
  • Perform engineering studies and analyses such as short circuit, load flow, ground grid design, lightning protection studies, insulation coordination, arc-flash studies, and protective device coordination.
  • Create relay setting files including programming of Protection and Control Elements, Control Logic, and Communications settings for company and third-party protective relays.
  • Test customized Protection and Control solutions both in-house and at customer installations.
  • Provide factory acceptance test plans and testing services to validate protection designs for customer witnessing.
  • Plan site acceptance tests and offer field support up to and including commissioning of new applications.
  • Assist in software tool development to automate the engineering process internally and externally with key utility partners.
  • Participate in project meetings with project managers and customers on technical discussions.

Requirements:

  • B.S or higher degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering specialized in power systems.
  • Five years of experience in the study and analysis of electric power systems.
  • Knowledge of power system steady and transient analysis, fault study, and protection theory. Familiar with symmetrical components.
  • Experience with study software and power system tools such as Mathcad, MATLAB, ASPEN, CAPE, SKM, CDEGS, WinIGS, or Etap.
  • Working knowledge of substation communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP, Modbus.
  • Knowledge or field experience with system commissioning and testing including Doble / Omicron test equipment or similar.
  • Ethical and professional business manner in interaction with team members and customers.
  • Technical skills to execute projects, identify opportunities, and write SOW proposals.
  • Estimate engineering efforts for customer proposals and projects.
  • Proficient in technical report writing, MS Word, and Excel.
  • Strong communication skills including technical writing and presentations.
  • Strong learning skills, demonstrated team player, and customer-focused.

Preferred Skills:

  • Professional engineering accreditation is an asset.
