What You"ll Be Doing

As a Senior Protection & Controls Engineer, you"ll play a key role in delivering protection and control solutions for transmission and distribution substations. You"ll collaborate with internal teams and utility clients while taking ownership of projects from concept through execution.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading Protection & Control engineering projects for utility substations
  • Performing relay setting calculations and coordination studies using ASPEN, SEL AcSELerator, and related software
  • Developing relay settings and issuing final design packages
  • Reviewing and marking up protection schematics, elementaries, and one-line diagrams
  • Conducting fault analysis, short circuit studies, and protection system evaluations
  • Supporting SCADA integration and protection system design activities
  • Coordinating with engineering and design teams to ensure successful project execution
  • Serving as a technical lead and mentoring junior engineers
  • Driving project schedules, technical quality, and overall project success
  • Interpreting industry codes, standards, and utility requirements
  • Traveling to substations and project sites approximately 10-15% as needed

What We"re Looking For

  • 8+ years of Protection & Controls experience within the utility industry
  • 8+ years leading engineering projects from start to finish
  • Strong experience in relay settings, relay coordination, and protection system design
  • Expertise with protective relaying systems (SEL, ABB, or similar)
  • Experience performing fault analysis, short circuit studies, and load flow analysis
  • Strong understanding of transmission and distribution systems
  • Bachelor"s Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited preferred)
  • PE License highly preferred
  • Candidates actively pursuing PE licensure are encouraged to apply

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $49.62 - $69.46/hr.
