    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Prototype Fabricator plays a crucial role in bringing our prototypes to life through skilled metal fabrication and welding.  This role is responsible for building high-quality, custom prototypes and components from engineering drawings and specifications using a variety of welding and fabrication techniques.  Working closely with engineering, design, and production teams, the Prototype Fabricator ensures that each build meets standards for form, function, and manufacturability.  This hands-on role requires precision, craftsmanship, and the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to fabricate prototypes using various material, focusing primarily on metals, with some projects including plastics and composites.
    • Perform welding techniques to join and fabricate components accurately and securely.
    • Select, cut and shape materials as per specifications using tools, i.e., brake press, milling machine, fiber laser, welding, grinders, CNC equipment, etc.
    • Assemble fabricated components into functional prototypes, ensuring precision fit and alignment.
    • Conduct thorough inspections of fabricated parts ensuring adherence to specifications and quality standards.
    • Maintain records of materials used, work performed, and any modifications made during fabrication process.
    • Work closely with engineers, designers, and project managers to ensure successful completion of prototype projects achieving project goals and timelines.
    • Adhere to all safety protocols, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

    This position has no direct reports.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must have hands-on welding experience, including proficiency with common welding techniques and tools, i.e. MIG and/or TIG welding.
    • Requires manual dexterity and good eyesight to be able to carry out repetitive and complex tasks, especially for those who are assigned to work with small parts.
    • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work in a team.
    • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings and documents in order to carry out the instructions according to specifications
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • 2+ years of experience in a production or assembly environment with skills in welding and/or fabrication.
    • Strong knowledge of materials commonly used in fabrication and their properties.
    • Familiarity with fabrication tools and equipment, including brake press, milling machine, fiber laser, welding, grinders, and CNC machines.
