Position Title: Disease Intervention Specialist
Summary
The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has retained Knowledge Service to provide a Disease Intervention Specialist. This position will support RIDOH's Center for Center for HIV, Hepatitis, STD, and TB Epidemiology (CHHSTE). The purpose of this role is to perform the more difficult and complex field investigations and/or inspections for the purpose of detection, prevention and control of infectious and noninfectious diseases and to make the more difficult and complex epidemiological investigations involving interviewing and counseling of patients, follow-up, contact tracing and subsequent examination.
Responsibilities
Perform HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) navigation services
Enter data into program databases in complete, timely, and accurate fashion
Support development of disease prevention resources
Perform field visits to conduct directly observed therapy (DOT) for tuberculosis
Review video submissions for video directly observed therapy (VDOT)
Log and maintain digital records of tuberculosis therapy for case load
To provide technical support and assistance to community, public and private agencies in the prevention, identification, treatment and referral of individuals at risk.
To inform individuals, groups, and agencies as to the regulations and statutes relative to infectious and noninfectious diseases.
Ensure compliance of these regulations and statutes regarding the timely reporting of infectious diseases.
To be responsible for the compilation and preparation of reports containing statistical data for surveillance purposes.
Interview individuals using a standardized case report form.
Complete surveillance case report forms accurately and completely.
Enter the data into the electronic surveillance system accurately and completely.
Counsel clients with standardized guidance and elevating to a nurse for more complex clinical cases.
Participate in outbreak investigations.
Maintain data and patient information in compliance with confidentiality policies.
Consult and liaise with assigned epidemiologist and nurse on outbreak mitigation issues.
Inform individuals, groups, and agencies as to the regulations and statutes related to infectious disease.
Support coordination of clinic activities on an as needed basis.
Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bilingual individuals who are fluent in Spanish or Portuguese preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Word, and PowerPoint
A thorough knowledge of the principles, procedures, methods and techniques involved in the prevention and control of infectious diseases.
