Location: Rochester NY
Shift: D/E/N Rotating Shifts (Days/Evenings/Nights)
Schedule: Holidays, Weekends, On-Call, and Call-Back as Needed

Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Psychiatric Technician / Mental Health Technician to join our behavioral health team. The ideal candidate will provide direct patient care and clinical support to inpatient psychiatric patients, assisting with daily living activities, socialization, and psychiatric rehabilitation under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and support to inpatient psychiatric patients on an individual basis.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and therapeutic interventions.
  • Support social, emotional, and psychiatric rehabilitation programs as directed by the RN.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and ensure access to necessary services and resources.
  • Observe, monitor, and document patient behaviors and report any changes in condition to the RN promptly.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, treatment planning, and group therapy sessions as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment for patients.
  • Follow facility policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of recent Psychiatric Technician, Mental Health Technician, or Behavioral Health experience.
  • Current BLS Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related field required.
  • Previous experience working with children and adolescents (ages 8–18) in a psychiatric, behavioral health, residential, or inpatient setting.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and observation skills.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health facility.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Experience participating in therapeutic groups and patient rehabilitation programs.
