THE POSITION

As a Psychiatric Aide with the Department of Human Services (DHS), you will have the chance to make a powerful impact on the lives of individuals receiving care at Danville State Hospital. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides direct consumer care and supports daily treatment activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse. As a Psychiatric Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Daily Living Support: Assist consumers with activities of daily living and help maintain a living spaces
  • Health Monitoring: Take and record basic health measurements such as temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure
  • Behavioral Assistance: Observe consumer behavior and report changes to the Registered Nurse
  • Treatment Program Support: Assist with treatment programs, therapeutic activities, and consumer supervision during on and off unit events
  • Emergency Response: Respond to medical or psychiatric emergencies according to established procedures and training
  • Communication and Documentation: Document consumer information, communicate observations, and maintain confidentiality of all records

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week

  • Work hours are 2nd shift (2:45 PM to 11:15 PM), with a 30-minute lunch. You will work a rotating schedule including weekends and holidays as assigned.

  • 2nd shift offers a differential of $1.25 per hour.

  • Your schedule may change based on operational needs.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Aide Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six months of experience in the care, activities, and personal guidance of individuals with mental health or physical illness or disabilities; or
  • Certification as a Nurse Aide or Nursing Assistant through the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
