    Job Description:

    St. Elizabeth Physicians is seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our growing, well-respected Oncology team, with the full support of our award-winning hospital system, St. Elizabeth Healthcare. This Advanced Practice Provider will play a vital role in addressing the psychiatric and psychosocial needs of oncology patients across the cancer care continuum.

    The PMHNP is primarily responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric care to oncology patients, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, medication management, and patient/family education. This role works collaboratively with oncologists, APPs, social work, psychology, nursing, and other multidisciplinary team members to deliver integrated, patient-centered care.

    The PMHNP is a highly visible position and is responsible for creating a positive impression with patients, families, physicians, and other visitors-both in person and on the phone.

    Key Responsibilities

    Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for oncology patients, including assessment of depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, trauma-related conditions, and serious mental illness.

    Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans, including psychopharmacologic management and supportive interventions.

    Provide ongoing medication management with careful consideration of oncology treatments, side effects, and drug interactions.

    Collaborate closely with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, APPs, social workers, psychologists, palliative care, and nursing staff.

    Provide patient and family education regarding psychiatric diagnoses, treatment options, medications, and symptom management.

    Participate in multidisciplinary care conferences and contribute to coordinated treatment planning.

    Accurately document all patient encounters, assessments, and plans of care in the electronic medical record (EMR).

    Adhere to all regulatory, compliance, safety, and quality standards.

    Serve as a resource to oncology staff regarding mental health symptom recognition and management.

    Promote a safe, therapeutic, and supportive care environment for patients and families.

    Required Skills and Knowledge

    Advanced practice knowledge including:

    Psychiatry and behavioral health assessment

    Psychopharmacology

    Psychosocial and family systems

    Diagnostic evaluation and clinical decision-making

    Crisis assessment and intervention

    Knowledge of medical terminology, oncology care environments, and integrated behavioral health models.

    Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions to establish and maintain a safe work environment.

    Knowledge of health promotion, risk identification, and patient education principles.

    Knowledge of community, professional, and educational mental health resources.

    Other Required Skills and Abilities

    Strong oral and written communication skills, including interviewing, documentation, consultation, and education.

    Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR).

    Skills in time management, case management, problem-solving, crisis intervention, and multitasking.

    Ability to analyze complex clinical data and draw appropriate conclusions.

    Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply clinical guidelines and procedures.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, clinicians, and the public.

    Demonstrated success working in a team-based, multidisciplinary care model.

    Ability to work independently while achieving effective outcomes and on-time performance.

    Attention to detail with accurate, timely follow-through.

    Responsible utilization of resources and consistent demonstration of initiative and professionalism.

    Willing cooperation with other departments and work groups.

    Required Education, Licensure, and Credentialing (Kentucky)

    Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited PMHNP program.

    Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) through ANCC.

    Active, unrestricted Kentucky APRN license or ability to obtain prior to start.

    Active Kentucky RN license.

    DEA registration (or ability to obtain).

    Prescriptive authority in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

    BLS certification (ACLS preferred based on practice setting).

    Eligible for and able to obtain hospital credentialing and payer enrollment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience working with oncology, medically complex, or medically ill populations.

    Experience in integrated behavioral health or consultation-liaison psychiatry.

    Familiarity with psychotropic medication management in patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or radiation.

    Experience working in outpatient specialty or hospital-based settings.
