About the Opportunity

KARE CENTER in Ann Arbor, MI is seeking a motivated and compassionate Psychiatric Physician Assistant (Psych PA) to join our expanding behavioral health team. In this role, you will conduct psychiatric evaluations, provide medication management, and deliver evidence-based mental health care under the collaborative supervision of our attending psychiatrists. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, therapists, and social workers to deliver comprehensive, integrated, patient-centered care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations including diagnostic interviews, mental status examinations, and risk assessments.
  • Diagnose and manage a broad spectrum of psychiatric conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and schizophrenia.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications under physician supervision, monitoring efficacy and adjusting treatment plans as needed.
  • Collaborate with supervising psychiatrists and the multidisciplinary team on complex cases, care plans, and treatment decisions.
  • Provide psychoeducation to patients and families on diagnosis, medication management, and coping strategies.
  • Document clinical encounters accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Participate in crisis intervention and safety planning for high-risk patients.
  • Conduct follow-up medication management and therapy coordination appointments.
  • Support telehealth visits as required in addition to in-person patient care.
  • Engage in quality improvement activities, case conferences, and ongoing continuing medical education.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Master of Medical Science (MMSc) or equivalent degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current NCCPA certification (Physician Assistant - Certified, PA-C).
  • Active and unrestricted Michigan PA license (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Valid DEA license for controlled substance prescribing.
  • 1-3 years of clinical experience in psychiatry or behavioral health preferred; new PA graduates with psychiatric rotations are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems.
  • Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally competent, and patient-centered care.
