About the Position

The Psychiatric Services Administrative Assistant provides advanced professional administrative support for East Mississippi State Hospital's inpatient psychiatric services division. Functioning within the Administrative Support Team Lead classification, this position supports the Psychiatric Services Director in the coordination of daily operations, administrative processes, communications, reporting, and compliance activities across the division. The position exercises a high degree of confidentiality and independent judgment while assisting with personnel support, records maintenance, timekeeping and reporting functions, court-related documentation, requisitions, inventory processes, and the coordination of internal and external communications. This role also supervises assigned Administrative Assistants within the division and helps ensure administrative operations are carried out accurately, timely, and in accordance with EMSH, DMH, and other applicable requirements.

What youll need to be Successful

To be successful in this position, the employee must be highly organized, dependable, and able to provide strong administrative support in a complex inpatient psychiatric services environment. The employee should be able to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records and reports, supervise administrative staff effectively, handle confidential information with discretion, and communicate professionally with leadership, staff, courts, and outside agencies. Success in this role also requires sound judgment, initiative, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to timely, accurate, and service-oriented administrative support.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires High School Diploma or equivalent and 5-7 years of experience. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in administrative support within a healthcare, behavioral health, legal, or public sector environment is preferred. Experience with timekeeping, personnel support, court-related documentation, report preparation, purchase requisitions, records management, and supervision of administrative staff is also preferred.
