Come join a great team at State Hospital West (SHW)! We are seeking three temporary Psychiatric Technician at SHW located in Nampa. SHW is a 16-bed adolescent psychiatric treatment facility serving youth ages 12 to 17. Nestled between Ridgecrest and Centennial golf courses along the I-84 corridor, SHW offers a tranquil setting for healing and growth. SHW provides critical inpatient psychiatric care for Idaho adolescents experiencing the most severe and persistent mental health challenges. We work in close partnership with families and communities to help our youths transition back to successful community living. Employees may be required to work weekends, holidays, and day shifts, swing shifts, and night shifts. This position is not eligible for telework.Temporary positions are limited to working 1,385 hours in a 12-month period for any one state agency. Employees are eligible for benefits if they work twenty (20) hours or more per week and the term of employment is expected to exceed five (5) continuous months.The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. In addition, the applicant will be required to complete and pass a criminal history background investigation after a conditional offer of employment.

This may involve skills training, psychosocial rehabilitation activities, behavior management, symptom management, and anger management.Interact with patients on a one-to-one basis and in group settings to encourage appropriate behavior and provide input into developing and changing patient treatment plans.Observe the signs of mental and physical illness, the patient's response to treatment, personal hygiene activities, and the individual's behavior and interaction with others.Take and record patients' vital signs and follow nursing procedures for patient care.Foster increased patient self-esteem through teaching and role modeling, facilitate problem solving, record observations of individual and group behavior, and chart treatment progress. Typically requires a completed college course in psychology, nursing or social work OR at least six months experience in dual diagnosis, behavioral interventions, mental health disorders and medications, psychiatric symptoms or therapeutic communications OR completed Psychiatric Technician training program through Southwest Idaho Treatment Center, State Hospital North, State Hospital West or State Hospital South OR at least six months of work experience providing treatment services for the mentally ill.Experience with behavior management for individuals diagnosed with mental illness and developmental disabilities. Typically gained by completion of at least six credits of upper-division college coursework in psychology or special education OR at least six months of work experience completing behavioral assessments and/or mental health scales, analyzing behavior and its function, and developing or assisting in developing behavior support plans. Experience may have been gained through SHS, SHW, SWITC, or SHN's sponsored training.
