HEALTH CARE AGENCY
The County of Orange Health Care Agency (HCA) is a dynamic organization dedicated to creating and supporting an environment that promotes the achievement of optimal individual, family, and community health. Under the direction of the Agency Director, a new and dynamic executive team with an organizational structure comprised of five (5) service areas-Administrative Services, Behavioral Health Services, Correctional Health Services, Public Health Services, and Specialized Medical Services -is committed to meeting the health needs of the diverse Orange County community.
CORRECTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES
Correctional Health Services (CHS) is comprised of two (2) separate entities. One is for adult inmates, and the other is for juveniles. The Adult CHS (ACHS) program provides medical, dental, nursing, infection control, health education and pharmaceutical services at a community standard of care and provides mental health services including 24-hour emergency triage and crisis intervention, suicide prevention, treatment beds, individual and group therapy, substance use counseling, medication assessment and discharge planning to all adult inmates in the Countys five (5) correctional facilities. The Juvenile Health Services (JHS) program has two (2) clinics -Juvenile Hall Health Clinic and Orangewood Family Health Clinic.
THEOPPORTUNITY
ACHS is seeking compassionate Psychiatrists to provide psychiatric medical and mental health services to mentally ill inmates. Responsibilities of the position will include but are not limited to:
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a correctional type of setting and possess a valid Board Certification issued by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following core competencies:
Technical Knowledge | Technical Experience
Perform prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of seriously mentally ill (SMI) patients
Clear patients from acute mental crisis (e.g. schizophrenia, affective disorder, anxiety disorder, substance use disorder, childhood mental disorder, and depression)
Provide care during psychiatric emergencies, including life-support measures and stabilization of mentally ill patients
Respond and manage patients experiencing mood swings, anxiety, anger, substance use, and other major mental illnesses
Treat patients with substance use disorders and drug withdrawal by recognizing all the following withdrawal symptoms: Emotional, Physical, Dangerous, Post-Acute
Implement psychiatric treatment guidelines to meet state and federal mandates
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the predictors of physical aggression in psychiatric patients
Familiarity with local, State and Federal standards related to providing mental health and medical care in a correctional setting

Additional Information: Will be required to work in a locked facility with adult inmates and/or ICE detainees, and/or youth who are in protective custody/incarcerated youth, who have multiple and complex health, social and psycho-social needs; may work with inmates, ICE detainees, or youth who have communicable diseases and/or behavioral health issues; may be assigned to evening or night shift, assigned to work every other weekend, and to work holidays as needed as the institutions are a 24 hour, 7 day a week facilities and coverage is essential. The environment can also be noisy and at times chaotic, will be exposed to profanity and/or anti-social behavior. There is no hostage policy for the Orange County Jail. May be required to be on call.
