Position Overview
Were seeking a Texas-licensed psychiatrist to serve as a Collaborating Physician for our Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) prescribing controlled substances in our Texas network. This is a hands-on compliance and patient care role with a flexible part-time schedule.
Core Responsibilities
• Credentialing & Privileging
- Complete formal credentialing process (education, licensure, DEA registration, work history verification)
- Obtain EMR privileges to authorize and oversee controlled substance prescribing
- Ensure DEA compliance and patient safety protocols
• Direct Patient Engagement
- Meet with patients during initial visits to establish physician-patient relationship
- Review and validate initial treatment plans before APP assumes primary management
• Legal Delegation & Compliance
- Execute and maintain formal Prescriptive Authority Agreements (PAA) with each APP (APRN or PA)
- Register delegation of prescriptive authority with Texas Medical Board (TMB)
- Ensure DEA registration alignment for controlled substance prescribing
- Conduct and document periodic chart reviews
- Hold required meetings with APPs to ensure safe, legal, and compliant prescribing practices
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- Active, unrestricted Texas medical license
- Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry
- Active DEA registration
- Not excluded from federal health care programs
- Strong understanding of Texas prescriptive authority delegation requirements
- Experience with controlled substance prescribing compliance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising or collaborating with APPs (APRNs, PAs)
- Familiarity with behavioral health EMR systems
- Experience in FQHC, RHC, or community health settings
- Background in addiction psychiatry or integrated behavioral health
Compensation & Benefits
Position type: 1099 independent contractor
Rate: $250/hour
