Provides direct outpatient psychiatric services through comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, counseling, and psychopharmacological treatment of assigned patients.

Job Description:

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities:

  • Basic responsibilities: Provides psychiatric evaluations, ongoing psychiatric assessments and treatments, and counseling to assigned patients. Analyzes patient data and test or examination findings in the diagnosis of mental disorders of assigned patients.
  • Data acquisition/coordination of treatment: Gathers and maintains patient information and records, including social, medical, and substance use history obtained from patients, relatives and significant others, and other sources. Also collaborates with physicians, psychotherapists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, or other professionals to obtain client history and to discuss treatment plans and progress.
  • Treatments: Develops individualized care plans involving evidence-based psychotherapeutic and/or medication treatments to assigned clients, when indicated. Monitors patient responses to these treatments (including adverse effects for medications) and makes necessary adjustments or recommendations. Focuses on and screens for patient safety and harm-reduction with each patient meeting and with all forms of treatment.
  • Documentation: Completes and submits billing sheets and progress notes within 48 hours of providing service.
  • Supervision: Participates in periodic supervision with the Medical Director and integrates recommendations and other feedback into clinical work performance. May provide ongoing, periodic supervision to psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychiatry residents, medical students as directed by the BILH BS Ambulatory Medical Director.
  • Adherence to regulations: Adheres to HIPAA and other pertinent regulations and laws mandated by federal and state agencies, including the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine and Department of Mental Health, and by Beth Israel Lahey Health Behavioral Services.

Leadership:

May provide ongoing, periodic supervision to psychiatric nurse practitioners, medical students and psychiatry residents as directed by the BILH BS Ambulatory Medical Director.

Communication Requirements:

Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; participates in meetings. Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs. Possesses the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from consumers, regulatory agencies, or other service providers. Has the capability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:

Must have current licensure as a physician in the State of Massachusetts, current licensures with the DEA and State of Massachusetts for controlled substances and current certification with the Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Must possess knowledge of the standard principles and practices of diagnosing and treating (via psychotherapy and psychopharmacology) mental disorders described in the DSM and stay current with developments in psychiatry.

Must have outstanding planning and implementation skills, a strategic approach to problem-solving, strong data reporting and analysis skills, and sound interpersonal skills.

Must be computer literate in standard desktop applications, including Windows, Word, and Excel.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, hear, speak, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Sitting or standing for long periods of time is required. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific visual capabilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Pay Range:

$300,000.00 USD - $370,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation may be determined based on several factors, that may include education, training, relevant experience, specialty, geography of work location, productivity, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include productivity and quality bonuses.
