Description

The Psychological Services Provider II provides school-based mental health services, coordination of services, and case management of students. They may also provide educational consultation services to school staff, community agencies, and the public. In addition, a PSP II, when needed and if qualified, may provide supervision and training to PSP Is and trainees responsible for delivering mental health services to students enrolled in GUSD schools. In a supervisory role, PSP IIs ensure that PSP Is and trainees provide high-quality care in accordance with the ethical guidelines and in compliance with all laws and regulations governing the practice of clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, and professional clinical counseling.

CURRENT VACANCY: At least two (2) permanent positions (10 months per year, 8 hours per day) in the Student Wellness Services and/or Special Education Department. Positions includes full district-paid benefits for the employee and dependents. Maximum District health and welfare contributions total up to $34,732.44 per year.

  • Provides counseling services, case management and other related mental health services to identified general education students through individual and/or group counseling; conducts parent intakes; develops treatment plans along with appropriate social/emotional goals for counseling services; maintains documentation in accordance with the state laws and professional standards; monitors student progress and refers students to other community agencies, as appropriate.
  • Provides mental health counseling services related to students' Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals in accordance with applicable professional licensing laws to students with disabilities inclusive of: coordination of services and/or case management; delivery of educational consultation services; collaboration with community agencies, and the public.
  • Prepares and completes all required documentation and reports for students including LEA Medi-Cal billing logs for all appropriate services.
  • Offers evidence-based Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons in schools as needed.
  • Offers Restorative Justice Circles to build and strengthen relationships and communities as needed.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, including Student Study Team (SST) meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, 504 meetings and other meetings when appropriate.
  • Provides training and workshops for parents, community agencies, students, school staff as needed on topics that include mental health, trauma awareness, social skills, conflict mediation, grief, drug prevention, and other social emotional issues that impact learning and overall wellness.
  • Provides supervision to designated staff, ensuring that mental health services consistently adhere to the required standard of care; reviews student records and counseling case notes, monitors and evaluates intakes and interventions.
  • Conducts and supervises risk/threat assessments and takes necessary steps to ensure safety and well-being of all involved.
  • Engages in continuous research to ensure the team remains at the forefront of emerging research and best practices to contribute to the development and/or improvement of innovative counseling interventions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, School Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field in behavioral sciences.

License and Credential:

  • Must possess a current and active license in good standing in one of the following:

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Licensed Professional Clinical Counseling (LPCC)

Licensed Psychologist (LP)

  • Must possess a valid Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential specializing in school counseling or school social work.
  • A valid California Class C driver license with a valid auto liability insurance coverage in compliance with the state minimum coverage requirements.
  • A valid First Aid and CPR certificate or possession of First Aid and CPR certification within thirty (30) days of date of hire.

If supervising, PSP II will work for 11 months per year and in addition to the education requirements listed above must:

  • Have been licensed for at least two (2) years out of the last five (5) years.
  • Must complete a minimum of 15 hours of supervision training that meets the course provider and course content requirements specified in regulation within 60 days of the commencement of supervision. Six hours of continuing professional development (CPD) in supervision is required each renewal cycle thereafter.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Strong background in case management, coordinating services and resources for students and their families.
  • Knowledge of district policies such as child abuse reporting, suicide prevention, intervention and postvention, threat assessments, etc.
  • Experience working within a school environment, understanding the dynamics of a school community.
  • Written and oral proficiency in a second language.

Probationary Period: 130 days of paid service.

After an offer of employment, a candidate must submit proof of freedom from tuberculosis. Also required after an offer is accepted, the candidate must complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (district-paid). The onboarding process includes legally mandated training(s) and reference checks. In addition, pursuant to Senate Bill 848 (SB848), the district is required to conduct reference checks that include inquiry into whether the applicant has ever been the subject of a credible complaint, investigation, or disciplinary action related to child abuse, sexual misconduct, or sexual harassment.

Benefits for permanent employees who work 4 or more hours per day include medical, dental, vision and life insurance.

Salary: The beginning and ending salary steps are shown on each examination announcement. Permanent employees with satisfactory service receive salary increases upon completion of their probationary period and at one-year intervals thereafter, up to the maximum rate.

Holidays: Regular classified employees are entitled to pay for authorized holidays, provided they were in a paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday.

Sick Leave: One day of sick leave earned per month, accumulation is unlimited.

Retirement: All new employees who work half time or more must become members of the California Public Employees Retirement System and the Federal Social Security program. Contributions are withheld from salary. Employees may become eligible for retirement at age 50 with a minimum of five years service.

Examination Process: A review of the applicants experience and qualifications will be conducted. Based on that evaluation, a limited number of applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the district will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process. The examination process will consist of one or more related test parts covering any subject matter appropriate to the duties of the position. Qualified applicants will be advised of the test components and weights prior to the administration of the first test part.

Eligibility List: Candidates successfully completing all phases of the application and examination procedure will be ranked on the appropriate eligibility list according to their total examination scores. This list is normally in effect for one year.

Classification: When a vacant position is to be filled, the top three reachable ranks from the eligibility list are contacted for employment interviews. The supervisor of the vacant position will interview those candidates and may make a selection from any one of them. Depending on the vacancy, current employees in the same classification who have a transfer request on file, may also be interviewed. New employees must serve a six-month or one-year probationary period, depending on the classification involved.

Fingerprint Requirement: California state law requires that all classified employees be fingerprinted. Candidates are responsible for paying the fees.

Certificate of Tuberculosis Examination: New employees must furnish proof that within the last 60 days they have had a Mantoux tuberculin skin test.

Accommodation: In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, applicants with disabilities may request that reasonable accommodation be given related to the actual examination process. Requests must be made at the time of application.

Physical Examination: Employees must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of the position without hazard to themselves or others. As a condition of employment, all prospective new hires must receive District approval relating to their fitness to work based on a physical examination. Tests must be given by a District-approved physician.

Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Training (AB1432): As a state requirement, all prospective employees of the district are required to complete the Mandated Reporter Educators Training course, prior to their start date of employment. The training must also be completed annually thereafter.

Veterans Preference: Five additional points of credit are added in entry-level examinations to the final passing score of qualified veterans showing 30 days or more service during time of war (10 points for disabled veterans) upon presentation of proof of veterans status (Form DD-214). This evidence must be presented during the examination procedure. No credit will be given after this period.
