Job Title: District Speech and Language Pathologist

Job Summary

The Stratford Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Speech and Language Pathologist to support the diverse communication needs of our elementary students. The successful candidate will evaluate, diagnose, and treat speech, language, and communication disorders while collaborating with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure that every student achieves their fullest potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Assessment & Evaluation:

• Conduct comprehensive speech and language screenings, evaluations, and diagnostic assessments for elementary-aged students.

• Analyze assessment data to identify communication strengths and areas of need.

• Intervention & Therapy:

• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans, including goals that align with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

• Provide direct, evidence-based speech and language therapy interventions in both individual and small group settings.

• Collaboration & Consultation:

• Collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, and related service providers to integrate speech and language strategies into the classroom environment.

• Serve as a consultant to parents, caregivers, and school staff by offering guidance on communication development and strategies to support student success.

• Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of student evaluations, therapy sessions, and progress reports.

• Prepare comprehensive reports for IEP meetings, progress updates, and administrative purposes.

• Professional Development:

• Participate in ongoing professional development and stay current on best practices in speech and language pathology.

• Contribute to the development and implementation of district-wide initiatives related to student communication and language development.

Qualifications

• Education:

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a closely related field.

• Licensure/Certification:

• Current state licensure or certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

• Certification from a recognized professional body (e.g., ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence) is preferred.

• Experience:

• Demonstrated experience working with elementary-aged students in an educational or clinical setting.

• Familiarity with the IEP process and special education regulations.

• Skills & Competencies:

• Strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills using evidence-based practices.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

• Ability to adapt strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.

• Proficient in maintaining accurate documentation and utilizing technology for data management.

Working Conditions

• Environment:

• Work within a public school setting, interacting with students, educators, and families in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

• Some positions may require travel between schools within the district.

• Schedule:

• Full-time position with a schedule aligned to the elementary school calendar, including occasional participation in after-school events or meetings.
