Description

The Academic Advisor provides proactive, student-centered guidance to help Snow College students achieve their educational, career, and personal goals. Advisors support student success through individualized academic planning, fostering a sense of belonging, and connecting students with campus resources. This position plays a critical role in student retention, completion, and overall satisfaction at Snow College.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Problem-solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or related field.
  • Experience in academic advising, student services, or higher education.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in advising.
  • Familiarity with degree audit systems, case management tools, and student information systems.

Major Responsibilities/Duties

  • Provide holistic academic advising to students, including course selection, degree planning, and transfer preparation.
  • Assist students in exploring academic and career goals while helping them understand college policies, degree requirements, and opportunities.
  • Support students in developing essential success skills such as time management, study strategies, and self-advocacy.
  • Proactively identify and reach out to students who may be at risk academically or personally, providing resources and support.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student support services to ensure students have access to holistic resources.
  • Maintain accurate advising records and use college technologies (e.g., student information systems, degree audit tools, case management systems).
  • Participate in orientation, registration events, and workshops to support new and continuing students.
  • Contribute to college-wide initiatives that promote retention, persistence, and completion.
  • Stay informed on institutional, state, and national trends in higher education advising and student success.

362 PART-TIME EMPLOYEE PRIVILEGES

April, 1997; Rev/May, 2000 (Effective July 1, 2000)

Definition.

A part-time adjunct faculty member is employed at less than 75% time annually and teaches at least one credit hour or more.

A part-time staff member is employed at less that 75% time annually. The employment time is three continuous months at an average of 15 hours a week.

Student hourly employees are exempt from the part-time privileges of this policy.

Privileges.

Upon authorization by the hiring department, part-time employees as defined under this policy will be issued a Snow College Part-Time Staff/Faculty Identification Card at the time of hire. The card entitles the holder to all of the privileges associated with a Full-Time Staff/Faculty Identification Card including, but not necessarily limited to, general admission or discounted prices for athletic and cultural events; Snow College library card issuance; computer network, Web, and e-mail access; bookstore sponsored discounts; and other discounts associated with the ID card at either campus. Supervisors have the right to terminate the privileges at any time during the fiscal year.

Non-inherent Privileges.

Privileges of full-time employees such as, but not necessarily limited to, college parties or gatherings, professional development activities, office/computer/telephone access, current expense budgets may be provided to part-time employees only at department discretion.
