Schedule: Up to 29 hours a week. Nights and weekends as this is when games take place at complex and outer fields.

Pay Rate: Up to $16.00 per hour

Description: SALARY up to 16.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Softball Commissioner, this position is responsible for maintaining athletic fields and landscaped areas. Duties include mowing grass, operating maintenance equipment, setting up and marking playing fields according to specifications, and repairing and maintaining equipment. Additional related tasks may be assigned as needed.

SCHEDULE

Schedule will be up to 29 hours per week. The schedule may vary, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, depending on weather conditions and departmental needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.

  • Provides support for athletic events as needed
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently on assigned tasks
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks such as mowing, weed eating, and spraying to ensure field readiness and aesthetic appeal
  • Operate city vehicles, including trucks with trailers, to transport and maintain field machinery, ensuring proper setup, cleanup, and maintenance of athletic fields
  • Remove debris from playing fields and surrounding areas to maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Assist in the preparation and repair of playing surfaces to ensure optimal playability and safety
  • Apply field markings and set up equipment for games and practice sessions according to schedule
  • Maintains fencing and other surrounding structures
  • Keeps records of completed daily work
  • Conduct facility maintenance tasks to ensure that all amenities are in good working condition
  • Responsible for ordering and delivering necessary field maintenance supplies and facilities
  • Inspects condition and cleanliness of facilities, prioritizing cleaning based on facility usage
  • Communicate with part-time staff regarding work priorities and schedule changes
  • Maintains clean and safe work areas, tools, and equipment
  • Be able to communicate with the public as needed, providing good customer service
  • Maintains a positive attitude and consistent performance
  • May be required to work heights of 10ft or more on ladders

NON-ESSENTIAL MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education required
  • Two year experience in athletic field maintenance, grounds maintenance, and recreation programs preferred

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in field maintenance, recreation programs, and grounds maintenance
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods of time and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely
  • Ability to understand follow and transmit written and oral instructions
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public

CERTIFICATES LICENSE REGISTRATION

  • Valid Drivers license required
  • Equipment: Pickup truck, miscellaneous hand and power tools, lawn boys, weed eaters, riding mowers, field liners, painters

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet except when operating power equipment.
