Position Description
DEFINITION:To provide classroom instruction to students enrolled in the Continuing Education Flooring Installation course.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:Receives general supervision from the Director of Pender CountyExercises no super vision
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:Teach program-specific content in-person and online using established curriculum.Prepare materials needed for course instruction, labs, and testing.Create a focused and engaged learning environment.Encourage student performance and growth of skills.Support the academic success of the students.Prepare students for a career in the floor-covering industry.Communicate effectively and efficiently with students, faculty, and staff.Relates instruction and material course objectives to real-world, industry-specific examples.Submits grades, attendance, reports, and records on time.Participates in professional development.Consistently conducting industry visits to establish key relationships.Staying abreast of manufacturing trends and training needs.Ensuring safety and security requirements are adhered to in training areas.Maintaining program certification requirements, as appropriate.Utilizing customer relation management software to organize and manage activity, contacts, and files, as well as oversee data collection and program management processes.Planning, conducting, and serving as a team member.Attending conferences, annual meetings, etc., on behalf of the technical college when needed.Other Important Functions:Reliable, diplomatic, and exceptional organizational and project management skills.Skilled in making oral presentations to public and private groups.Proficient in administering surveys to evaluate progress.Self-motivated, determined, and team oriented.Works well without direct supervision.Open and receptive to constructive feedback.Demonstrated ability to lead and foster a positive team environment.Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Proven decision-making and problem-solving skills.Able to communicate and work with diverse populations in a wide variety of settings.Proficient in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.Strong interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of:Expertise in the floor installation field including carpet, hardwood, tile and resilient flooring.Safety proceduresIndustry standards and best practicesCareer paths and opportunities within the flooring installation industryClassroom and laboratory instructional techniques and proceduresPrinciples and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and proceduresCurrent trends, research and development in the area of assignmentPrinciples and techniques involved in test development and administrationAbility to:Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulationsCommunicate concisely and respectfully, both orally and in writingWork independently in the absence of supervisionEstablish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of workUnderstand and follow oral and written instructionsMaintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:making observationscommunicating with othersreading and writingrecognizing and responding to questionsoperating assigned equipmentMaintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities that may include the following:sitting and standing for extended periods of time operating assigned equipment - overhead projector, computerbending, stooping, climbing or lifting up to 50 poundsCommunicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Maintain mental capacity that allows the capability of:making sound decisionsanswering questionsdemonstrating intellectual capabilities
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:Minimum Education/Training:High School Diploma or equivalent Minimum Experience:At least 3 years experience in flooring installationPreferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:3 years experience and expertise or comparable skill setsRemains current in the field preferred
