About Lawrence Public Schools and the Adult Learning Center:

Lawrence Public Schools is an urban district serving more than 13,000 students, the majority of whom are economically disadvantaged. More than 70% of our students speak a language other than English as their first language. The Lawrence Public Schools - Adult Learning Center has provided free Adult Basic Education and ESOL classes to the citizens of Lawrence, MA and the surrounding communities for more than 50 years. The ALC provides high quality educational services to 800 - 1,000 students per year who desire to develop: English language, literacy, numeracy, and technology skills for further education, job training, and better employment, as well as those who utilize our Test Center.. We also provide Citizenship Prep to help prepare students to pass the USCIS Citizenship Exam.

The Vision of the Lawrence Public Schools - Adult Learning Center is to ensure that all English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) students achieve the learning goals they have set upon entry into our program. By improving students' skills in the areas of academics, language, technology, and workforce development, we will increase their opportunities to enter college, to obtain an industry-recognized credential, to expand their career choices, to enjoy a family-sustaining wage, and to become effective citizens of their community.

About the Student Intern Position:

The ALC Student Intern position is a part time entry-level position with tremendous growth opportunity. The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting our LACES data entry system by making phone calls to interested students on ALC's "Inquiry List", as well as required follow-up data collection related to employment, enrollment in post secondary education and training. The Student Intern will provide outstanding customer service to all interested students and visitors by assisting them with important information related to ALC services.

Reports to: The ALC Principal, Director of Operations, Evening Program Facilitator(s), and the Evening Clerk(s).

Responsibilities to include, but not be limited to, the following:

Collect, process and maintain confidential data related to ALC students and prospective students;

Enter student registrations, and attendance records into LACES;

Meet/Greet and direct all visitors seeking ALC class & program information;

Make and answer telephone calls in a professional manner, and redirect calls where appropriate;

Reach-out via phone calls to prospective students from the Inquiry List, students in need of a mid-year or post test, and follow-up data collection of former students;

Help direct prospective students to the online inquiry form, and assist in completing form when needed;

Adhere to rules of student confidentiality, and the use of "good judgment" relative to all staff/student interactions;

Comply with school, district, city, and statewide policies, regulations, and laws;

Complete other duties as assigned.

All ALC programs, policies and procedures;

LACES Adult Education student data management system;

Digital technology and digital literacy tools, Chromebooks, Google Classroom, Microsoft Office Suite;

Adult Education through SABES professional learning opportunities.

Professional Abilities:

Professionalism in all interactions with customers, students & LPS/ALC staff;

Familiar with Digital Tools, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite databases;

Flexible, adaptable, and possess a sense of humor;

Willingness to take initiative and succeed in a fast-paced school environment while remaining calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges;

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalency;

Associate Degree Preferred;

Bilingual, Spanish preferred;

Current Authorization to work in the United States.

Compensation: This position is a temporary position with no benefits. Hourly salary range: $20 - $22
