Summary of Purpose

Performs paraprofessional duties in support of one or more instructional disciplines. Typical duties for all paraprofessionals are listed below. The employee is expected to work in a multi-cultural, diverse working environment. This is a part-time, in person position.

Typical Duties

This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:

• Sets up, cleans, and demonstrates use of equipment and instruments; maintains and performs minor repairs on equipment and instruments.
• Maintains inventories, orders supplies in accordance with college purchasing procedures, prepares maintenance work orders, and arranges for outside repairs of equipment and instruments, as necessary.
• Monitors safety and security of work area, equipment, supplies, and materials; maintains cleanliness of work area, ensuring conformity with MIOSHA directives.
• Assists faculty in work area, as requested.
• Assists students in labs regarding basic questions in subject matter, equipment, procedures, etc.
• Issues and checks in instruments, teaching aids, supplies, equipment, and materials.
• Performs necessary clerical duties and functions.
• Trains and directs college student personnel with appropriate approval.
• Performs related tasks, as assigned.
• Ability to work additional hours, as needed.

ARTS, CERAMICS, and PHOTOGRAPHY:

• Travels off-campus to obtain supplies and materials; delivers and picks up equipment and instruments to be repaired.
• Prepares developing solutions for photo lab, as needed.
• Monitors and arranges disposal of chemical and biohazard waste.
• Sets up material/equipment and processes documents with computer enhanced technology.
• Prepares clay and glazes; operates kilns.
• Sets up for class demonstration.
• Assists with photography or art exhibits, if applicable.
• Assists in loading software on computers in the digital photography labs, as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience

EDUCATION: An earned Associate's degree or higher in Photography.

• OR-

An Associates Degree or higher with a minimum of 16 college credit hours in Photography.

• AND-

EXPERIENCE: Must possess and maintain a current and valid Michigan drivers license.

Part-time Classified employees are offered the opportunity to have medical, dental, vision at the full monthly premium; life insurance is also available at a nominal cost. Participation requires that benefit costs be taken via payroll deduction.
