Description

Summary

The Summer Camp Instructor is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for campers. This role involves planning and facilitating educational and recreational activities that align with camp objectives while supporting positive youth development.

Program areas for Summer Camps may include, but are not limited to: Arts & Crafts, Babysitting, Sewing, Cake Decorating, Coding, Cosmetology, Criminal Investigation, Culinary Arts, Dance, ESports, Entrepreneurship, Math, Music, Nature, Literature, Plumbing, Environmental Science, Electrical Wiring, Robotics, STEM/STEAM, Horticulture, Video Game Animation, and more.

This will be for summer 2027.

Knowledge & Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervision & Safety
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers.
  • Supervise activities and enforce camp rules and procedures.
  • Follow all emergency and safety protocols.
  1. Activity Planning & Instruction
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate educational and recreational activities.
  • Prepare materials and equipment for daily programming.
  • Encourage participation, teamwork, and engagement.
  1. Camper Support & Development
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor.
  • Promote inclusion, respect, and appropriate behavior.
  • Apply basic child development and behavior management strategies.
  1. Communication & Teamwork
  • Communicate effectively with campers, staff, and parents.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver high-quality programs.
  • Maintain accurate records (attendance, incidents, progress notes).
  1. Environment & Operations
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized camp environment.
  • Assist with daily setup and cleanup.
  1. Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities outside of the camp participants.

Qualifications

Education Minimum: Relevant education or demonstrated experience in camp subject area.

Experience Minimum:

  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Demonstrated experience of at least 1 year working with children in camp, school, or recreational settings. Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with diverse populations and/or special needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing activities and environments.
  • Proficiency in integrating digital or media-based learning when appropriate.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is encouraged.
  • Spanish and English verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Information

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
