Position Description

DEFINITION:

• Assist with Technical Theatre functions in the Studio Theatre for the AFA Theatre Program in the WA building at the Downtown Campus.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

• Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from the Program Chair of Theatre
• May occasionally receive general supervision from full-time instructors of theatre.
• Exercises no supervision of faculty or staff.
• Exercises some supervision of students.

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENT:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Organizing, preparing, and maintaining theatre spaces for the AFA Theatre Program
• Assist with inventory and supply orders.
• Oversee open scene shop hours.
• Help to train students on proper tool use, maintenance, and safety.
• Maintain clean and organized workspaces.
• Maintain departmental storage spaces.
• Assist with classes taught in the Studio Theatre, Scene Shop, Drama Lab and Costume Shop
• Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines.

Other Important Functions:

• May be responsible for hanging and focusing lights for departmental productions.
• May oversee student lighting crew.
• May oversee student scenic construction crew.
• May help train student stage managers.
• May have some responsibility for set up of sound equipment.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

• Technical Theatre course content, equipment, supplies, reference materials, and safety procedures appropriate to the assigned spaces
• Operational techniques of theatre equipment
• Safety practices in working with theatre tools and supplies.
• Basic inventory and purchasing processes and procedures.
• Basic principles and procedures of record keeping.
• Personal relation skills to work with the students, faculty, and staff.

Ability To:

• Work independently in the absence of supervision
• Understand and follow oral, written, and digital instructions.
• Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Communicate clearly and respectfully, both orally, in writing, and online
• Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
• Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:
• Standing or sitting for extended periods of time
• Using technology
• Using woodworking tools
• Handling varied tasks simultaneously
• Bending, stooping, climbing ladders and/or using a genie lift

or lifting up to 50 pounds

• Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:
• Making sound decisions
• Responding to questions
• Demonstrating intellectual capabilities

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Minimum Education/Training:

• Associates degree with a major in Theatre or other closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience:

• Minimum of three (2) years of experience in the field of technical theatre, experience from a professional theatre and/or a college/university theatre program are both acceptable.

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:

• Bachelor's degree with a major in Technical Theatre or other closely related field.

Supplemental Information

Special Instructions to Applicants:

• Position requires 25 hours per week and will require a small amount of evening and weekend hours in the Wilson Center on the downtown campus.

• Applicants should have experience in at least two of the following areas:

• Set construction, sound, lighting, or stage management

• Successful candidates are required to submit official transcripts for all degrees obtained, within 30 days of hire date. If highest level of education is a High School diploma or equivalent, proof of completion is required.

• Successful candidates who have obtained their education outside of the US and its territories must have their academic degree(s) validated, at their own expense, by an outside credential evaluation service as equivalent to the Baccalaureate or Master's degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.
