General Function

This position assists in planning, coordinating and providing tutoring services to support instructional programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates academic tutorials including individualized and group tutoring, tutor/mentor training, and academic skills workshops.
  • Attends trainings and provide training to other staff when necessary.
  • Assists students on how to use technology to effectively utilize campus resources.
  • Organizes and conducts workshops for students.
  • Assists students in using computer-aided instruction and additional computer resources to help them develop basic skills in that particular subject area.
  • Works as a team member with other staff members to support students academic success.
  • Participates in appropriate on-campus staff development opportunities.

Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Math or a closely related area; Experience in teaching and tutoring in Math related subjects; Demonstrate ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; willingness to work flexible hours and to embrace change; ability to follow written and oral directions and to work with minimal supervision.

Additional Information

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Basic computer literacy
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and standard tutoring procedures
  • Ability to work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Working Conditions:

Typical office, computer or tutoring laboratory environment; infrequently lifting and carrying items up to 10 lbs.; infrequently twisting or bending at the waist or reaching overhead; infrequently traveling between buildings on campus or to other campuses; frequently listening to and talking with students, faculty and other staff members in person or on the telephone; frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a computer display, keyboard, mouse; may include weekend and evening hours
