The Department of Public Health is recruiting for Public Health Microbiologists II who perform microbiological, immunological, and molecular biology testing on patients specimens, food, and other samples; analyze and interpret laboratory results and prepare accurate laboratory reports; and perform quality control and equipment function tests.

Recruitment Bonus: Eligible employees hired into a regular classified position from this recruitment may be eligible to received $2,000 in total compensation. Please see SEIU MOU for details.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Public Health Microbiologist Licensure: Incumbents selected for these positions must provide verification of possessing a Public Health Microbiologist Certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) prior to start date or offer maybe rescinded.
Work Location: The San Bernardino County Public Health Laboratory is located in Ontario, CA. Candidates must indicate their availability in the supplemental questionnaire.
Work Schedule: The position is Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM with the possibility of call-back for urgent lab testing. Positions in DPH are designated Disaster Service Workers and may be scheduled to work after-hours, weekends and holidays to cover emergency response.
Working Conditions: Incumbents are routinely exposed to dangerous chemicals and infectious materials.
Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require work visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must qualify under one (1) of the following options:
Option A:
Public Health Microbiologist Examination Registration: Must demonstrate progression towards completion of all academic and supervised training AND be scheduled to take the California Public Health Microbiologist Certification exam administered by the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
IMPORTANT: Applicants must provide verification of exam registration as set forth by AAB Board of Registry or application will be disqualified.
Option B:
Licensure: Possess and maintain a Public Health Microbiologist Certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
