What Success Looks Like In This Job
The Adams County Health Department (ACHD) Nursing Division is comprised of Nurse Family Partnership, Nurse Support Program, Harm Reduction, Sexual Health, Immunizations, Child Maltreatment and Fatality Prevention, and Care Coordinator for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs. The Nursing Division is made up of clinical support staff, medical assistants, harm reduction specialists, operations support, nurses, advanced practice nurses, and midwives.
As a Public Health Nurse II on the Sexual Health Program team youll work closely with our Nurse Practitioner to deliver comprehensive sexual health services including contraception, STI testing, treatment, and education. Youll have the opportunity to independently screen and test clients for STIs, administer prescribed medications, and provide vital post-examination education. Key responsibilities include triaging clients, offering guidance on contraception effectiveness and usage, and educating on STI risk factors and prevention. Working Conditions and Physical Abilities:
This role includes occasional physical activities such as ascending/descending stairs; moving oneself into different positions to provide patient care; standing, walking, squat, and sitting for extended periods of time; moving about to accomplish tasks from one worksite to another; moving people or objects as heavy as 100 pounds; communicating with others to exchange information verbally and in writing, operating medical equipment and keyboards/data entry devices. Requires constant physical mobility to prepare, sterilize, and clean clinic areas, assist patients in the reception and treatment areas, and to negotiate around equipment and chairs in the examination room. This position requires travel to clinics and outreach events throughout the Metro Denver area on an as-needed basis with reliable transportation.
This position may expect environmental conditions as work can be performed in patient's homes, outdoors at outreach events and health fairs, as well as in an office building.
Emergency Preparedness and Response Duties:
Completes trainings identified as appropriate for this level employee. Employee participates in all exercises and drills on emergency preparedness and response, as required. Employee responds, as required, to support emergencies, incidents and events with a public health and medical impact.
Some clinical areas may require on-call duties.
