Job Title: Public Health Program Director 1
Location: Nashville, TN 37243 (must be a Tennessee resident; in-person onboarding on Day 1 in Nashville)
Pay rate: $32.00 - $32.14
Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM CST (7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours/week; Assignment Dates: 10/12/2026 – 06/30/2027; contract expected to renew annually through June 2030 pending funding)
Overview
Housed within the Tobacco Use Prevention & Control Program under the Division of Family Health and Wellness (FHW), the Public Health Program Director 1 collaborates with program and evaluation teams to plan and implement evidence-based tobacco prevention and cessation strategies targeting youth and young adults. This position supports schools, facilitates youth engagement trainings, builds community stakeholder relationships, and develops health education interventions.
Job Specifications- Plan and execute evidence-based programs and initiatives addressing tobacco prevention and cessation among youth and young adults
- Assist schools with implementing youth tobacco prevention programs, cessation initiatives, and educational curricula
- Organize and conduct youth engagement trainings and health education workshops alongside the tobacco team
- Design and deliver relevant training materials and programs for health department staff, educators, and community professionals
- Develop and distribute program educational materials to internal and external stakeholders
- Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with community organizations and internal/external stakeholders
- Attend quarterly meetings and professional development opportunities in-person in Nashville
- Travel as needed for site visits outside the Nashville metro area (reimbursed per state policy; travel to the Nashville office is not reimbursed)
- Bachelor's degree in health education, biology, or a related field from an accredited institution required
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in public health, education, or a related field required
- Must be a Tennessee resident (or establish residency prior to start date)
- Strong ability to prioritize and execute tasks independently in a hybrid/remote work setup
