Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
The Director of Marketing and Public Relations plans and directs the marketing and public relations programs at USC Sumter, including the dissemination of news and information concerning USC Sumter, its faculty, staff, and student body, both internally and externally. The Director of Marketing and Public Relations reports directly to the Campus Dean and is a key member of the University leadership team and manages all marketing and public relations functions. A bachelor's degree and 2 or more years of experience is required, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. The successful candidate must: demonstrate expertise in computer software required for production of publications and advertising (Adobe); demonstrate exceptional ability to communicate effectively; and have a record of success in Marketing and Public Relations and working with a team to meet objectives. Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations, Marketing or related area preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Requires knowledge of printing processes including layout and design with the ability to develop specifications to produce publications internally and externally. Must be proficient with Windows, Microsoft Office including Microsoft Publisher, and be familiar with other graphic design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite. Must have some experience in photo journalism.

Job Duty
Assist faculty and staff in promoting various activities of USC Sumter, writes speeches, reviews and approves all printed programs, publications, and media projects prior to being released to the public.
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 10 Job Duty
Write and distribute news releases utilizing various public information media. Maintain communication with media, in consultation with the Dean of the University, as the official spokesperson for USC Sumter.

Serves as Web Master for USC Sumter and is responsible for the information contained on the USC Sumter Web Site.

Manages marketing and advertising functions, working closely with Admissions Services Department, and serves as ex-officio chair of the Marketing and Public Relations Committee.

Serves as managing editor of all publications, e-newsletters, Viewbooks, and other regular publications. Assist in the design and production of all externally circulated collateral pieces presentations and commercials used to publicize programs or activities, pamphlets, posters and printed material concerning institutional operations and programs.
