The Prince George's County Government Office of Homeland Security (OHS) is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a permanent full time 

Public Safety Communications (PSC) Operations Division Manager (Administrative Specialist I) position, grade G29, within its Public Safety Communications (PSC) Operations Section.

About the Position: 
This is a critical leadership role within the County’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)/9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center. The incumbent ensures that more than 1.5 million annual public safety requests for service are processed and over 1.2 million emergency incidents each year are dispatched in accordance with agency requirements, industry standards, and public safety guidelines.  This position meets the State of Maryland definition of a 9-1-1 Specialist.                                                                                                                                                              
This is a professional management position within the Office of Homeland Security Public Safety Communications Operations Division. The individual in this role works under the direction of the PSC Division Chief and closely with the PSC Deputy Director to ensure timely, accurate, and effective responses to emergency and non-emergency public safety requests for service. Prince George’s County 9-1-1 Specialists serve as the public’s primary point of contact for public safety response and are vital to the safety of other first responders. This position is a critical component in the daily operation of Prince George’s County Emergency Communications Center and the public safety continuum. The person in this position requires extensive management experience operating within a large, high-volume, combined 9-1-1, Fire/EMS, and Law Enforcement Dispatch Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). This position is considered essential.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

About the Agency

The Office of Homeland Security (OHS) was developed as a result of legislation passed in 2003.  This new agency incorporated critical emergency response entities that were previously part of other agencies.  Public Safety Communications (PSC), which included all County 9-1-1, emergency dispatch and radio system support, had been part of the Office of Information Technology and Communications (OITC).  The Emergency Management Division (EM) was within the Fire/EMS Department. EM and PSC were combined under the leadership of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Public Safety/Director of Homeland Security, forming the Office of Homeland Security.  The legislation and resulting changes to the Charter, spelled out the separate and distinct missions assigned to EM and PSC.
