POSITION SUMMARY:
The non-exempt hourly position is a specialized public safety officer II (PSO) responsible for maintaining safety, security, and order within the University campus, residence halls, and surrounding footprint. They serve as a visible presence, support student wellbeing, and coordinate closely with university stakeholders including Office of Student Affairs and Student Life, Office of Residential Living, faculty, and staff.
This is a 24-hour operation which requires the ability to work an atypical schedule to meet operational necessity, with varied shifts, including weekends and holidays. This position is classified as essential personnel and may require reporting to duty during emergencies or natural disasters, and special events.
Adherence to established public safety uniform and grooming standards is mandatory.
The PSO II may be called upon to be shift lead and may perform collateral duties as a Field Training Officer for newly hired officers to mentor, coach, and train them in duties of the job. The PSO II may serve as the Acting Shift Supervisor in their absence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO QUALIFY FOR PSO II:
Associate's degree or at least sixty (60) college credits; OR High school diploma or equivalent with (2) years of active or reserve military duty; OR prior State or Federal Certified Law Enforcement Officer; OR Certified State of Florida Guardian with a minimum of 1 year of employment in that role; OR four years of continuous, post-high school work in a Higher Education setting.
Valid driver's license.
Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement
Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to, or is found guilty of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.
Never have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States
Successfully pass a background investigation, that may include drug testing
Good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively in a diversified community.
Excellent customer service skills necessary.
Must be responsible, dependable and punctual.
