Job Summary
The Public Safety Team Lead coordinates with Public Safety leadership to provide front-line leadership and oversight for Public Safety operations on off-shifts. The Team Leader encourages and promotes a professional, safe and secure environment for the hospital including its colleagues, clinicians, customers and visitors. Assists with the performance of daily operational activities and compliance with department policies and procedures. Coaches and mentors current and new colleagues to achieve daily performance expectations.
- Provides a timely response, uses problem solving to take appropriate action to manage and investigate security incidents and hazards.
- Patrols and rounds facility to identify concerning activity, safety concerns or other problems. May be assigned to fixed areas to check credentials, provide information or directions. When assigned to mobile patrols, operates vehicles in a safe manner complying with all traffic and safety rules.
- Shares information with other Public Safety Officers, maintains accurate activity logs and completes reports and documentation.
- As Team Leader, partners with Leadership and other Public Safety Officers to ensure Public Safety Officers have access to and are informed about department standard operating procedures, protocols, policies and relevant changes. Communicates on an ongoing basis (daily/weekly) with all Public Safety Officers to provide support and assistance.
- Serves as a department liaison for CHH Directors, and Managers that need to share information that is pertinent to their operations.
- Coaches and mentors current and new colleagues regarding department operations and job role.
- Provides professional, customer service focused assistance to the HHC Community including patients, visitors, families, colleagues, clinicians, physicians, and the first responder community, among others.
- Maintain current knowledge of instructions, policies and procedures and performs work in accordance with these guidelines.
- Informs supervisor or other leadership of unusual situations and request additional assistance as needed.
- Partners with law enforcement and other first responders when circumstances warrant.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English required
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Two (2) years of relevant experience (public safety, corrections, emergency medical services, military) required
- Valid driver's license required
- Valid CT Guard Card required
- Associates degree in related fields preferred
- Three (3) years of relevant experience preferred
- Multilingual preferred
- Ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment to perform duties promptly and consistently with little direction based on the current circumstances.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practice of healthcare, emergency management, safety, security, and public safety.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, grow engagement, manage multiple relationships, and influence organizations, leaders, and staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to prepare and present material, documents and instill confidence in the content that is being provided.
- Proven ability to identify opportunity areas, create solutions and implement standard work across a large organization.
- Capability to independently analyze and solve a variety of difficult situations, problem events, emergencies.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to handle tasks independently.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office, general technology and electronic tools and resources.
