Department E-911 Title: Public Safety Systems Administrator ETSD

The Sangamon County Emergency Telephone Systems Department ETSD is seeking a Systems Administrator to support and share responsibility for mission-critical public safety systems supporting countywide 9-1-1 operations and client agencies.

This position functions as a senior technical role within ETSD and is expected to develop deep working knowledge across all enterprise systems to ensure operational redundancy continuity of service and resiliency. Systems supported by this role directly affect emergency response for Law Enforcement Fire and EMS agencies.

This role works closely with the Deputy Director Senior Systems Administrator and is intentionally designed to avoid single points of failure within the organization.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the Systems Administrator will:

  • Install, configure, monitor, maintain, and support all ETSD computer systems including servers, networks, cybersecurity controls, storage, and cloud-based services
  • Serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting, incident response, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning for system issues and outages
  • Share responsibility for Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems including configuration, upgrades, integrations, vendor coordination, and change management
  • Develop and maintain operational knowledge across all mission-critical systems to ensure redundancy and continuity during absences, emergencies, or personnel transitions
  • Assist in planning and oversight of AI-assisted public safety technologies including: • Integration and configuration of vendor-provided AI platforms • Monitoring system performance, accuracy, security, and regulatory compliance (CJIS, HIPAA, and related standards) • Coordinating vendor training, validation, and auditing activities
  • Participate in system documentation, standard operating procedures, and technical knowledge transfer
  • Participate in bi-weekly on-call rotations supporting 24/7 mission-critical operations

Requirements:

  • Strong technical aptitude across enterprise software platforms, servers, networking, cybersecurity, and system integration
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience
  • Work Conditions: • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week • Non-traditional hours required as needed for system maintenance, outages, or emergencies • Participation in a bi-weekly on-call rotation is required • Must maintain a valid drivers license and pass required background checks • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work in physically constrained environments (e.g., under desks, consoles, vehicle interiors, etc.)

Skills:

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex multi-system issues under time-sensitive conditions
  • Strong documentation, planning, and organizational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience: • Experience administering and supporting computer systems including servers, network devices, storage, and security infrastructure • Experience with CAD systems, GIS platforms, or public safety technologies is strongly preferred • Experience in public safety, government IT, or other regulated environments is highly desirable
