POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nampa Public Library is dedicated to serving the entire Nampa community by providing resources to individuals who may not have access to the main library due to physical, social, geographic, economic, or other barriers. The library's bookmobile plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our community by delivering library services directly to those in need.

Under the direction of the Public Service Manager, the Public Services Outreach Librarian III will organize and manage the library's outreach initiatives, collaborating with all internal library departments to ensure the delivery of professional, high-quality outreach programs and services to the Nampa community. This role involves active participation in and leadership of the daily functions of the library bookmobile.

Given that outreach activities may occur during various days and times, including evenings and Saturdays, a flexible work schedule is essential. Applicants must be able to accommodate this variability as a continuing requirement of the position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Delivers outreach services to the Nampa community.
  • Serves as an ambassador for the library, maintaining a positive, courteous, and professional demeanor.
  • Must maintain a valid Idaho driver's license with a clean record.
  • Works closely with the Public Service Manager in scheduling and coordinating public service programs, supplies, and resources.
  • Guides and encourages Public Service staff with outreach responsibilities, including training and professional development.
  • Oversees daily operations of the bookmobile and directs bookmobile staff as needed.
  • Performs reference and reader's advisory for patrons.
  • Handles circulation functions such as checking materials in and out, registering new patrons, and processing book requests and holds.
  • Coordinates, prepares, and delivers outreach services and programming for schools, early literacy, community engagement, underserved populations, and senior facilities.
  • Must possess strong skills in public speaking and program presentation to effectively engage adults and children.
  • Ensures the safety of the public and staff in and around the bookmobile.
  • Manages bookmobile technology in coordination with the Public Technology Manager and assists patrons as needed.
  • Supervises and trains outreach staff while on the bookmobile.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly bookmobile environment.
  • Manages the bookmobile collection, including changing out the collection to match daily stops.
  • Initiates library cards and assists with patron accounts.
  • Maintains and reports bookmobile statistics for performance assessment.
  • Responsible for maintaining records related to the bookmobile's maintenance and fueling.
  • Creates schedules and routes for the bookmobile in cooperation with relevant stakeholders.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Assists with other library duties as assigned when the bookmobile is not in use.
  • Conducts regular assessments of community needs to inform and adapt outreach programs and services effectively.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community groups to promote outreach efforts and enhance service delivery.
  • Evaluates outreach programs and services through feedback collection and analysis to ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness.
  • Assists in identifying funding opportunities and writing grant proposals to support outreach initiatives and bookmobile operations.
  • Plans and coordinates special events or initiatives to promote the bookmobile and its services within the community.
  • Recruits, trains, and manages volunteers to support outreach activities and programs.
  • Develops educational materials and resources for outreach programs to enhance community engagement.
  • Manages social media communications related to outreach activities and the bookmobile to increase visibility and community interaction.
  • Spanish speaking highly preferred to enhance community engagement.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Master's Degree; required, Field of Study; Library Science (MLS) or Information Science (MLIS) or the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within a year of hire.
  • 4 plus years of experience in libraries or education, including some supervisory experience or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

  • Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and utilize standard or customized software applications relevant to assigned tasks.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and software as they emerge.
  • Ability to quickly grasp the overall duties and responsibilities of the position and adapt to evolving job requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, adapting language for technical and non-technical audiences.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment and a Sprinter Bookmobile.
