Lead Public Sector Construction Projects

Lead impactful public sector construction projects throughout Chicagoland.

Our client is an established Illinois-based general contractor with decades of experience delivering complex public sector construction projects throughout the Chicagoland area. Job Description

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead all phases of public construction projects from preconstruction through final occupancy.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, forecasts, and overall financial performance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, architects, engineers, and public agency representatives.
  • Administer contracts, change orders, RFIs, submittals, and procurement activities.
  • Coordinate closely with field leadership to maintain project schedules, quality standards, and safety performance.
  • Ensure compliance with public agency requirements, prevailing wage regulations, certified payroll reporting, M/WBE participation goals, and project documentation.
  • Lead OAC meetings and provide regular project reporting to executive leadership and clients.
  • Identify project risks and develop proactive solutions to minimize cost and schedule impacts.
  • Mentor Project Managers and Project Engineers while supporting their professional development.
  • Oversee project closeout, commissioning, punch list completion, and final documentation.

The Successful Applicant

  • 8+ years of Project Management experience with a commercial general contractor.
  • Previous experience managing municipal, county, state, educational, healthcare, or other publicly funded construction projects.
  • Demonstrated success delivering projects for agencies such as the Chicago Public Building Commission, Cook County, municipalities, school districts, or other government entities.
  • Strong knowledge of public bidding requirements, contract administration, prevailing wage compliance, M/WBE participation, and public procurement processes.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining budget and schedule performance.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and client relationship management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
