Supervisor Title: Public Works Operations Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age when the job begins.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.

Nature of Work:

Under direct supervision of the Operations Supervisors, a Public Works Operations Maintenance Worker (Seasonal) will be assigned to perform routine unskilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance of parks, lawns, grounds, and recreation areas. Assignments may include landscaping and maintaining Sibley Park farm, Land of Memories campground, athletic fields, airport, and streets. May work up to 40 hours per week for a maximum of six (6) months during the Seasonal timeframe of April 15-October 31.

Duties / Responsibilities

Primary Essential Work Functions:

  • Operates industrial grade mowers, ballfield groomers, gators, weed trimmers, leaf blowers or small tractors.
  • Plants, transplants, and trims trees, shrubs, and flowers.
  • General maintenance of athletic fields and equipment.
  • General forestry maintenance.
  • Maintains signs.
  • Patches potholes, including luting and shoveling blacktop.
  • Animal care at Sibley Park farm.
  • Maintains municipal campground, including operation of power mowers or small tractors and maintenance of camper sites.
  • Maintains Air Field, including mowing and debris clean up.

Communicates With:

  • Internally - Public works employees
  • Externally - Community members

Supervision:

  • Non-supervisory

Other Work Functions:

  • Performs physical and mental demands and work environment requirements for this position.
  • Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours. Hours may vary.
  • Must be available to work at various starting times on occasion to facilitate meeting desired conditions of streets and respond to varied work assignments.
  • Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and community customers.
  • Performs other related work as assigned or apparent.

Hours of Work

Work hours for all seasonal Public Works Operations positions will vary and include daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday hours. May work up to 40 hours per week for a maximum of six (6) months during the Seasonal timeframe of April 15-October 31.
