Little, Brown and Company

Little, Brown and Company is looking for a Publishing Assistant to support the VP, Associate Publisher and Director of Backlist. This role will provide administrative and project support across a wide range of publishing activities, with particular involvement in seasonal publishing processes, sales materials, backlist promotion, and ongoing divisional initiatives.

The Publishing Assistant will work closely with the VP, Associate Publisher to coordinate meetings and materials, support seasonal sales and publishing processes, and manage regular administrative needs. The assistant will also work with the Director of Backlist to support promotional opportunities and projects for Little, Brown's extensive backlist, including sales reporting, retailer programs, metadata, and title tracking.

This position offers an opportunity to gain broad experience across the publishing process and will work with all imprints of Little, Brown, including Little, Brown, LB Spark, Voracious, and Algonquin.

This is a NYC-based role. Please note our current hybrid model is 3 days in-office, 2 days working from home.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the VP, Associate Publisher with administrative duties including scheduling, expense reporting, meeting coordination, conference room management, and other day-to-day needs
  • Coordinate materials and logistics for weekly, seasonal, and other divisional meetings
  • Support seasonal sales meetings by inputting key information into internal systems, updating campaign summaries, and creating and distributing sales materials and presentations
  • Oversee galley ordering and distribution for marketing, publicity, and editorial teams
  • Organize and execute book and galley mailings
  • Assist with the creation and updating of presentations, sell sheets, pitch materials, and other internal and external materials
  • Support the Director of Backlist on ongoing backlist sales and promotional initiatives
  • Coordinate the sourcing and upload of Amazon A+ content, working with internal creative resources and utilizing Basecamp and Amazon Vendor Central
  • Conduct agent and author research and assist with outreach and tracking for Kindle Unlimited enrollments
  • Pull and organize reports, including Kindle Unlimited results, low-price ebook results, sales reports, and other ad hoc reporting
  • Maintain and update the monthly low-price ebook nominations grid
  • Maintain backlist tracking grids, including seasonal and holiday promotional title lists, media tie-ins, and other sales opportunities
  • Assist with title metadata updates as needed, including media quotes, BISACs, keywords, and other title information
  • Provide research and administrative support for backlist promotions, retailer initiatives, and special projects
  • Provide general support for divisional projects and initiatives as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues across departments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Comfort working with spreadsheets, data, reports, and tracking documents
  • Strong research skills and ability to synthesize and organize information
  • Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and adapt in a fast-moving environment
  • Proactive, resourceful, and motivated, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Familiarity with project management platforms such as Basecamp and Notion is a plus
  • Familiarity with Amazon Vendor Central, publishing metadata, or sales reporting systems is a plus, but not required
  • Basic familiarity with Canva or other design tools is helpful, but not required
  • A strong interest in book publishing and enthusiasm for working across a wide range of genres and publishing functions

The compensation for this position is $52,500. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location - talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
