The Registered Respiratory Therapist performing the role of Pulmonary Function Technologist-RRT is responsible for performing pulmonary diagnostic examinations including spirometry, complete pulmonary function tests and may include exercise and metabolic studies for patient populations served. This may include both inpatient and outpatient. This individual is a professional resource for physicians and other allied health professionals regarding the performance, documentation and interpretation of PFT's. He/she is expected to provide education for students and instruction to patients, families and caregivers regarding respiratory procedures and disease processes. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining records for quality assurance related to all aspects of testing.

Education

Minimum Level of Education Required: Associate degree

Additional Requirements

Type of degree: Allied Health

Area of study or major: Respiratory Care

Preferred educational qualifications: Bachelor's degree preferred

Licensure/Certification/Registration

Valid and Active Ohio License to practice Respiratory Care.

Active Registered Respiratory Therapist credential through the NBRC is required.

Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist credential through the NBRC required. Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist credential through the NBRC preferred. Job Description Template 3

BLS and ACLS required.

Experience Minimum Level of Experience Required:

1 - 3 years of job-related experience

Prior job title or occupational experience: Registered Respiratory Therapist

Preferred experience: Previous pulmonary function skills are preferred. Proficiency in exercise and metabolic testing is preferred. Experience providing patient instruction in smoking cessation, COPD or asthma management is preferred.
