JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for an electrical and mechanically minded team player to become our next Pump & Controls Service Technician. The ideal candidate for this role has strong experience with motor controls or pump control panels and electrical systems and strong mechanical aptitude. In this role you will work with a team of technicians to assist on municipal, commercial, industrial, and residential water and wastewater pump repairs and installations and grow into a lead Service Tech. Work is completed in the field at customer sites throughout Indiana, Ohio, and in our service shop.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Initially working with an experienced senior technician to gain an in-depth understanding of Covalen’s products and processes and ensure that you have the necessary training and certification to perform the work.
  • Work with a team of service techs to repair, rebuild, replace, and install water and wastewater pumps and control panels.
  • As you become more comfortable you will lead the diagnosis, repair, and installation of lift station pumps and pump systems as well as completing repairs on residential grinder pumps as time allows.
  • Perform mechanical repairs of bearings, seals, and gasket replacements.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair lift station control panels, control systems, and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and control faults: level controls, alarms, relays, contactors, motor starters, and power circuits.
  • Read schematics and wiring diagrams to trace faults and verify panel operation..
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot pump-control PLCs and VFDs.
  • Perform panel start-up, pump start-up, and installation inspections, verifying proper controls, sequencing, and electrical connections.


SKILLS

  • Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical and ladder schematics, tracing faults to the component level across both hard-wired and automated control panels.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and hydraulic schematics for pumps and piping systems a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial motor control / pump control panels — motor starters, contactors, overload and control relays, and 120/240/480V single- and three-phase power and control circuits.
  • Experience with mechanical level controls, electrical, level transmitters, alarms, and automatic pump sequencing (or comparable level-, pressure-, or process-based control schemes) a plus.
  • Experience with VFDs and PLCs — configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of pumps, motors, and hydraulics, and the ability to repair, rebuild, and install wastewater pumps is a plus.
  • Basic competence with computers and Microsoft Office
  • Strong ability to maintain accurate record of job details and work completed.
  • Ability to manage your time while working independently
  • A strong balance of technical and interpersonal skills


OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid driver’s license, insurable-no DUIs in the last five years, minimal tickets
  • Ability to pass a background check


WORK AND EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

  • Electrical and/or mechanical repair or maintenance experience required
  • Three years’ experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial motor control / pump control panels and the electrical systems that power them.
  • Lift station experience is ideal; comparable experience from motor control centers (MCCs), industrial automation, HVAC controls, water/wastewater treatment, or other pump systems (booster, fire, well, or irrigation pumps) is welcome.·
  • Demonstrated ability to read electrical and ladder schematics and troubleshoot motor control circuits to the component level.
  • Experience with motor starters and contactors, VFDs, and PLCs.
  • Experience with the maintenance and repair of lift stations and other water or wastewater pumps preferred
  • Confined space experience preferred
  • Electrical license or certification, or trade school certificate a plus
  • Prior customer service experience is highly preferred.


WORKING CONDITIONS/DEMANDS

  • This position is a Monday-Friday, in-person position
  • On call nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule
  • Occasional out-of-town travel
  • Walking, standing, sitting, moderate to heavy lifting, infrequent climbing
  • Exposure to outside temperatures in all weather conditions
  • This position requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office equipment

SALARY

Compensation is competitive and will be commensurate with experience and education for this non-exempt position and is targeted at $25-$30/hour.
