As an Equipment Operator I, you will:

  • Operate a variety of motorized equipment, including tanker trucks, vacuum trucks, dump trucks, and backhoes, to transport materials, tools, and personnel to job sites.
  • Use specialized equipment to support essential City operations and assist in the repair and maintenance of sanitary sewer gravity and force mains and service laterals.
  • Perform operational tests and inspections to ensure facility systems and components are running efficiently, including manholes and valves.
  • Inspect and perform minor maintenance on motor equipment, reporting any issues to your supervisor.

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this class requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Depending upon department requirements, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire, is also required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience operating heavy equipment to perform maintenance of sanitary sewer systems, construction or related field.
