Description

The purpose of the class is to supervise the construction, alteration, maintenance and repair of sanitary sewer lines, lift stations and grinder pumps; to oversee the operations of sewer pump stations and grinder stations for the County; to inspect air release valves and wet wells; and to perform other technical work as required. The class is given a general outline of work to be performed and is free to develop work methods and sequences; work is reviewed by supervisor periodically.

Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Oversees the operation and maintenance of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system servers, workstations, networks, PC equipment, printers and related equipment including security requirements.
  • Schedules preventive maintenance work required on wastewater pumping stations and assigns specific tasks.
  • Supervises assigned crew members. Supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; recommending employee discipline; and recommending discharge as appropriate.
  • Reviews the work of assigned crew members for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; and offers advice and assistance as needed.
  • Ensures crew members perform all work in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
  • Assists and advises crews in the conduct of routine tasks; may plan and direct emergency maintenance activities that involve loss of service or property damage with minimal disruption to the public.
  • Leads and participates in the work of unskilled and semi-skilled workers and equipment operators using tools and maintenance equipment to service and repair wastewater pump stations.
  • Orders supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED.

Requires at least six (6) years of related work experience.

One year of supervisor training preferred.

Special Qualifications:

Must possess a valid state driver's license and a CDL license.

Must possess a "D" Wastewater Collection License.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position; typical work 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hour each week to maintain full-time status. Is subject to 24-hour on-call status as assigned; may be required to work during emergency conditions as assigned. Must be available to work holidays and weekends during emergencies. This is a safety sensitive position and employees holding this position have the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. This position is subject to random drug testing.
