Purchasing Agent – Construction (MEP Preferred)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Purchasing Agent to support procurement operations for a growing construction contractor. This role will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and coordinating materials, equipment, and services to support field operations and project timelines.

The ideal candidate will have experience in construction purchasing, with a strong understanding of materials and vendor management. Experience supporting MEP scopes (Mechanical, Piping, Sheet Metal) is highly preferred.


Key Responsibilities

  • Source and procure materials, equipment, and services for construction projects
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Solicit bids, compare pricing, and negotiate favorable terms
  • Issue purchase orders and track order status to ensure timely delivery
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with material planning
  • Resolve supply chain issues, delays, or discrepancies
  • Ensure materials meet project specifications and quality standards
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation
  • Support cost control initiatives and budgeting efforts

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in construction purchasing or procurement
  • Strong understanding of construction materials and project workflows
  • Experience with vendor negotiations and contract management
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and material takeoffs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and purchasing/ERP systems
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience with MEP systems:
    • Mechanical equipment
    • Process piping
    • Sheet metal / HVAC systems
  • Familiarity with construction scheduling and project coordination
  • Local vendor/supplier network
