Job Description

The Purchasing Agent – The job holder’s goal is to exceed the customer’s expectation of service by providing safe quality food. The Purchasing Agent position is responsible for sourcing food products and managing vendor relationships. The Purchasing Agent will perform strategic procurement activities, and constantly search for better deals.

  • Working with various reports and ordering accordingly to facilitate production.
  • Facilitating all purchasing activities.
  • Negotiating ingredient pricing and contracts.
  • Working with QA, R&D with ingredients specification as well as vendor approvals.
  • Initiating new vendor and new ingredient round robin reports.
  • Working with production manager & sales to plan production according to customer needs.
  • Assisting with HACCP, GMP, company policies, all audits and requirements.
  • Managing all inventory related issues (FIFFO).
  • Scheduling receipt and shipment of goods.
  • Verifying invoices and receiving documents with A&S purchase orders and submits appropriate documents to accounts payable.
  • Performing various office functions to include typing and filing.
  • Maintain open and professional communication, both internally and externally, with A&S management, A&S colleagues, and A&S customers.
  • Provide timely information to manager on discrepancies found that require additional discussion.
  • Communicate with manager on issues that prevent you from completing your work in a timely manner, staff issues, customer order fulfillment issues, software program errors, etc.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • BA in Field or equivalent in education and/or experience.
  • Minimum three years related experience, experience in food manufacturing environment preferred
  • Spanish and/or German is a plus but not necessary.
  • Able to read, write and speak English.

  • Excellent computer abilities with advanced MS Office skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook skills.
  • Proficient in typing.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to multi task.
