Position Summary
The Purchasing Coordinator works under the direction of the Purchasing Manager and is responsible for purchasing a variety of materials-primarily MRO, non-stock, and interdepartmental items-in an efficient and economical manner while following established policies and procedures. This role plays a vital part in supporting plant and office operations and ensuring the right materials are available at the right time and cost.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase materials in support of plant and office operations using ERP/MRP systems (Ross/Aptean)
- Coordinate and communicate shipments, lead times, and delivery schedules
- Create, implement, and reconcile RFQs to support cost-savings initiatives
- Meet annual cost-savings targets established by the Purchasing Manager and Executive Team
- Perform strategic sourcing to improve supplier competition, reduce risk, and lower overall spend
- Create accurate purchase orders and ensure timely receipt of materials
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure purchasing needs are met
- Verify pricing, recommend alternate sources, and negotiate discounts
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, including price histories and supplier performance
- Support just-in-time inventory practices by working closely with production scheduling
- Perform additional tasks as needed to support Jost operations
Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate's degree in business, logistics, supply chain, purchasing, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 2 years of purchasing experience using ERP/MRP systems (food or pharmaceutical manufacturing experience preferred)
- Strong attention to detail with excellent math and analytical skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Position is on-site, 40 hours per week
