Summary:

The Purchasing Specialist initiates, prepares, processes, and verifies purchase orders following established guidelines to purchase materials and goods by required delivery dates in order to ensure appropriate levels of stock inventory items and ad hoc requests are maintained.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school graduate or GED required
  • One year general work experience required
  • Knowledge of purchasing processes preferred
  • Understanding of vendor and supplier relationships preferred
  • Intermediate computer skills with sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Well organized with an attention to detail
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitor inventory levels, initiate purchase orders
  • Maintain adequate levels of stock items, forward approved orders to suppliers, monitor fulfillment and expedite requests as needed
  • Place service calls on fixed assets (water coolers, coffee machines, printers, copiers, etc.)
  • Research and select the most suitable suppliers in terms of reliability, product quality and cost efficiency for both stock items as well as approved ad-hoc purchases
  • Request cost proposals and negotiate pricing to obtain comparative prices on a regular basis to ensure favorable pricing on all purchased items
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all transactions, purchase orders and order receipts; initiate the payment process when orders are fulfilled
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate inventory and procurement records
  • Maintain supply order request forms
  • Track and resolve purchasing and inventory problems and/or discrepancies
  • Build and maintain positive, long-term relations with suppliers
  • Analyze industry and demand trends and develop recommendations to optimize sourcing strategies for the organization
  • Update purchasing procedures as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed upon request from immediate supervisor

The good faith range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00 per hour. This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications and operational needs. The salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.
