About Us

The Firm Market Risk Technology Team develops software to measure and monitor Market Risk and Capital for the Firms global portfolio. We are responsible for designing and implementing technology solutions that calculate and assess the Market Risk of the Firm. Our systems support daily risk simulations and analytics that estimate potential losses across different time horizons.

We work closely with Risk Managers, Market Risk Analytics teams, Senior management, and various regulatory bodies globally. Market Risk team constantly updates its current suite of risk management tools, frameworks and processes or builds new ones in order to meet frequently changing business and regulatory landscape.

Role Overview

As a Market Risk Technology Director, you will lead the development of Python-based applications and frameworks that empower business teams to onboard their own datasets and seamlessly leverage advanced tooling. Your solutions will provide a platform for intuitive data access, automation, and AI-driven insights working closely with the Risk Analytics team to help risk managers and businesses gain productivity and make faster, smarter decisions.

You will design and implement scalable solutions for risk data processing, RESTful services, and agentic workflows that support talk-to-data interfaces and Generative AI-driven commentary. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise in Python and modern engineering practices. Generative AI experience is highly desirable but can be developed on the job.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and own Python-based frameworks for data analytics, automation, and conversational interfaces. • Deliver innovative applications and tools that allow business users to onboard and manage their datasets and leverage self-service analytics. • Architect and manage RESTful services for large-scale enterprise solutions. • Implement scalable solutions for risk analytics and automation, integrating with existing risk engines and data pipelines. • Optimize data ingestion and processing pipelines for efficiency and performance. • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for risk technology. • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to developers in the squad. • Work in an Agile environment to deliver high-quality, timely solutions.

Required Qualifications

Strong hands-on application development experience in Python, preferably FastAPI or Flask. Broad understanding of data engineering (SQL, NoSQL, Big Data, Kafka, Redis), data governance, privacy, and security. Experience designing and managing RESTful services for enterprise-scale systems. Hands-on experience with multiprocessing, multithreading, asynchronous I/O, and performance profiling. Practitioner of unit testing, performance testing, and BDD/acceptance testing. Understanding of OAuth 2.0 for secure authorization. Proficiency with Open Telemetry tools (Grafana, Loki, Prometheus, Cortex). Demonstrated experience in DevOps, CI/CD (Jenkins), and GitOps. Ability to articulate technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences. Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture, microservices, Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka. Knowledge of various DB engines (SQL, Snowflake, Redis, Kafka) for cloud app storage. Familiarity with SRE techniques and observability best practices.

Desired Skills (Growth Areas)

Experience building AI applications, preferably Generative AI and LLM-based apps. Understanding of AI agents, Agentic Orchestration, Multi-Agent Workflow Automation, and frameworks like LangChain and LangGraph. Experience with embeddings, fine-tuning Generative AI models, and LLM Ops/ModelOps. Understanding of Responsible AI, AI Ethics, and secure coding practices.

Soft Skills

Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking. Ability to act autonomously and make complex decisions. Excellent communication and collaboration skills across global teams and time zones.

Qualifications

Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $120,000 and $165,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
