Description:
Job Summary
We are looking for a Python Software Engineer to design and develop software platforms for enterprise network and infrastructure management, with a particular focus on DNS, DHCP, and IP Address Management (DDI/IPAM).
This is primarily a software development role. You will build Python services, APIs, automation frameworks, and integrations that manage network resources and provide infrastructure capabilities as programmable, self-service services.
You will work closely with networking, datacenter, compute, storage, and platform engineering teams to transform traditionally manual network-management processes into scalable, API-driven software solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Python Software Development
- Design, develop, test, and maintain production-quality software primarily in Python.
- Build scalable backend services, APIs, libraries, and automation frameworks for infrastructure and network management.
- Apply modern software engineering practices including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, version control, API design, and software lifecycle management.
- Design software that can reliably operate across multiple datacenters and large infrastructure environments.
- Troubleshoot complex software and distributed-system problems and implement sustainable fixes.
Network Management Software – DNS, DHCP & IPAM
- Design and develop software solutions for enterprise DNS, DHCP, and IP Address Management (DDI/IPAM).
- Build software for automated IP allocation, reservation, discovery, reclamation,
and lifecycle management.
- Develop APIs and workflows for managing DNS records, DHCP configuration, subnets, address pools, leases, and related network resources.
- Build integrations between DDI/IPAM platforms and compute, networking, provisioning, cloud, and datacenter systems.
- Develop software to automate network-resource onboarding and configuration across multiple datacenters and environments.
- Help establish authoritative infrastructure data and source-of-truth models for network resources.
APIs, Automation & Platform Integration
- Design and implement REST APIs and other programmatic interfaces for network and infrastructure services.
- Build integrations with infrastructure platforms, CMDBs, provisioning systems, and automation frameworks.
- Develop event-driven and workflow-based automation for infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Build solutions that dynamically allocate and recycle IP addresses and other network resources for compute infrastructure.
- Integrate network-management services with bare-metal provisioning, PXE/network boot, virtualization, and cloud workflows.
- Enable infrastructure capabilities to be consumed through APIs and self-service platforms rather than manual operational processes.
Reliability & Observability
- Build monitoring, metrics, logging, and health-check capabilities into network-management services.
- Implement dashboards and alerting using technologies such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or similar platforms.
- Define and track service metrics such as availability, latency, capacity, error rates, and resource utilization.
- Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis for software and network-management services.
- Improve reliability through automation, testing, observability, and operational tooling.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree required
Software Engineering
- Strong Python programming skills and professional software development experience.
- Experience designing and developing production backend services and applications.
- Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including: Object-oriented and modular software design
REST API design
Data structures and algorithms
Automated testing
Git and modern development workflows
CI/CD
Debugging and performance troubleshooting
- Experience developing software that integrates with external systems through APIs, databases, messaging systems, or event-driven architectures.
- Strong Linux development and troubleshooting skills.
Networking & DDI
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, subnets, routing, VLANs, DNS, and DHCP.
- Experience with or strong knowledge of IP Address Management (IPAM).
- Understanding of DNS zones, records, resolution, DHCP scopes, leases, reservations, and IP address lifecycle management.
- Experience developing or integrating network-management systems through APIs.
- Ability to translate networking requirements into maintainable software abstractions and automated workflows.
Infrastructure Automation
- Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with CMDB or infrastructure source-of-truth systems.
- Understanding of bare-metal provisioning and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Experience building automated infrastructure onboarding and provisioning workflows.
Collaboration & Ownership
- Comfortable working across software engineering, networking, compute, storage, datacenter, and SRE teams.
- Ability to take ownership of a software service from architecture and development through deployment and production operations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to turn ambiguous infrastructure requirements into well-defined software solutions.
- Strong focus on automation, reliability, maintainability, and scalability.
Nice to Have
- Experience developing or operating enterprise DDI/IPAM platforms such as Nautobot, NetBox, Infoblox, BlueCat, Kea DHCP, BIND, or similar technologies.
- Experience building network automation or network management software.
- Experience with FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar Python frameworks.
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
- Experience with Kubernetes, containers, and cloud-native application development.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues, or workflow engines.
- Experience with large-scale internal infrastructure platforms or Infrastructure as a Product.
- SRE or DevOps experience.
- Experience with multi-datacenter or hybrid-cloud environments.
- Familiarity with PXE, network boot, OS imaging, and server bootstrap/provisioning systems.
