Job Description:

The Department of Information Resources (DIR) is seeking an experienced QA Automation Engineer to support database application testing initiatives. The selected candidate will design, develop, and execute automated testing solutions while ensuring application quality, database integrity, and compliance with Texas DIR standards. Candidates must be local to the Austin, Texas area (within a 50-mile radius) and have prior experience working with Texas State Agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop automated test scripts for database applications.

  • Create and execute test plans, test cases, and test execution strategies.

  • Perform functional, regression, application, and performance testing.

  • Identify, document, track, and report defects throughout the testing lifecycle.

  • Validate database integrity, consistency, and data quality across systems.

  • Monitor database performance and provide optimization recommendations.

  • Collaborate with developers, database administrators, and business stakeholders.

  • Maintain testing documentation and automated testing frameworks.

  • Ensure compliance with Texas DIR Project Delivery Framework standards.

  • Support testing activities throughout the software development lifecycle.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize testing scenarios and develop execution plans.

  • Prepare and manage test environments.

  • Interpret business and technical requirements and update testing artifacts.

  • Participate in status reporting and testing progress reviews.

  • Support multiple testing initiatives simultaneously.

  • Work closely with technical and non-technical teams during project delivery.

Required Skills:

  • Experience designing automated tests using database testing scripts.

  • Experience creating and maintaining automated testing frameworks.

  • Experience developing test plans, test cases, and test environments.

  • Experience performing functional, regression, and application testing.

  • Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

  • Ability to analyze requirements and update testing documentation.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with defect tracking and test management processes.

  • Strong reporting, planning, and management documentation experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to work with technical and business teams.

  • Strong teamwork and stakeholder collaboration skills.

  • Experience with Texas DIR Project Delivery Framework and document templates.

  • Familiarity with information architecture and information management methodologies.

  • Understanding of enterprise software architecture and infrastructure environments.

Preferred Skills:

  • Performance testing experience.

  • Database performance monitoring and tuning knowledge.

  • Experience with large-scale enterprise database applications.

  • Experience supporting Texas State government projects.

  • Knowledge of enterprise information management practices.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 12%2B years of QA Automation and Testing experience.

  • Minimum 2%2B years of experience working with Texas State Agencies.

  • Local to Austin, Texas area (within 50 miles).

  • Experience with database testing automation and validation.

  • Experience managing multiple testing efforts simultaneously.

Education:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred.

Certifications:

  • ISTQB Certification (Preferred)

  • Certified Software Tester (Preferred)

  • Relevant QA Automation Certifications (Preferred)

  • Candidates currently residing outside Texas and planning relocation will not be considered.

  • Prior Texas State Agency experience is mandatory.
