QA Analyst / Quality Assurance Specialist (contract)

Duration: 12 months, with potential to convert to a full-time hire  
Travel: Approximately one week per month, every other month  
Location:  Remote

Position Overview

We are seeking highly detail-oriented QA professionals who approach testing from both an end-user and systems-analysis perspective. This person will do more than execute existing test scripts—they will proactively identify gaps, edge cases, unclear requirements, and potential business risks before they impact customers.

The ideal candidate is naturally curious, methodical, skeptical, and comfortable challenging assumptions. This role supports validation of customer-facing communications, where missed defects may create regulatory exposure, member confusion, claims-processing issues, or financial risk.

Successful candidates bring a blend of skills across quality assurance, business analysis, investigation, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements Analysis

- Review business and technical requirements to identify ambiguity, gaps, inconsistencies, and missing acceptance criteria.
- Translate requirements into comprehensive test scenarios and test cases.
- Assess upstream and downstream system, process, and communication impacts.
- Partner with business and technical stakeholders to clarify expected outcomes and end-to-end workflows.
- Proactively ask questions that uncover scenarios not explicitly addressed in requirements.

Examples of the questions a strong QA professional may raise include:

- What happens when a member has multiple policies?
- How should communications be handled when delivery is suppressed?
- What is the expected behavior if a document is delivered both electronically and in print?
- What is the full end-to-end process flow, including expected inputs and deliverables?
- How many communication-template variations must be validated?

Test Planning and Design

- Design and execute test cases based on documented business and technical requirements.
- Create testing artifacts from scratch rather than relying solely on pre-written scripts.
- Develop coverage across functional, regression, integration, end-to-end, negative, and boundary testing.
- Identify test-data needs and ensure scenarios represent real-world business conditions.
- Validate workflows across systems, integrations, files, communications, and customer/member outcomes.

Defect Management

- Identify, reproduce, document, and track defects through resolution.
- Apply root-cause thinking to distinguish symptoms from underlying issues.
- Write clear, detailed defect tickets that enable efficient investigation and resolution.
- Evaluate and communicate defect severity, business priority, customer impact, and risk.
- Accurately route defects to internal or external teams and participate in defect triage and follow-up.
- Maintain test-file, test-data, and reconciliation tracking throughout the testing lifecycle.

A well-documented defect should include:

- Actual result and expected result
- Business, customer, regulatory, operational, or financial impact
- Test data used, including file names and record counts where applicable
- Supporting screenshots, logs, or other evidence
- Clear, repeatable steps to reproduce the issue

Data and Output Validation

This role will be especially important for migration-related work. Candidates should be comfortable validating data accuracy and completeness across source and target environments, including:

- Source-to-target outputs
- Member data and member-level records
- Print-file outputs
- Email-delivery data
- Communication content, formatting, routing, and delivery outcomes
- Record counts, reconciliation results, and exception handling
