QA Inspector

SUMMARY

As a QA Inspector III, you are the last set of eyes on the part before it ships. You will run first article, in-process, and final inspections on machined fasteners — working from prints and GD&T callouts with calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, go/no-go gages, and an optical comparator — and back that up with mechanical testing (hardness, tensile, and Charpy), positive material identification, and coating thickness verification. You will confirm stamp marking, document every result, and make the accept or reject call on parts headed into critical service. This is hands-on floor work for an inspector who reads a drawing carefully, keeps clean records, and does not pass anything they are not sure of. Training is provided on the mechanical test equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

·         1st article and in-process inspections for machining operations.

·         Final inspection and acceptance duties

·         Verification of stamp marking

·         Mechanical testing; Hardness, tensile, and charpy (job training provided as needed)

·         Positive Material Identification (PMI) testing

·         Coating Thickness testing

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum 3-5 years of experience as an inspector with extensive forklift experience. Must keep inspection area clean. Must meet all previously required criteria. Must work well with other employees and make sure all work is done thoroughly and in a timely fashion.

Experienced with the following tools:

·         Caliper/height gage

·         Micrometer – Outer Diameter Micrometer, Blade Micrometer, and Pitch micrometer.

·         Dial indicators and use

·         Use of go/no go gages, pin selection, and use.

·         Optical comparator

·         GD&T Concepts – Positional, circular runout, and total runout.

·         Drawing interpretation in accordance with ASME Y14.5

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma and three (3) years experience in quality assurance at least two (2) of which are related to fastener testing and inspection and the preparation and maintenance of associated documentation, or GED or four (4) years’ experience in quality assurance, at least two (2) of which are related to fastener testing and inspection. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
